one too many travel adventures
Repost from Beijing Travel Bug
There are a bunch of sports activities you can do in Beijing. But one of the famous seasonal sports is Skiing. Usually, resorts start to open around end of November or whenever the year’s winter season starts.

Nanshan Ski Resort is one of the biggest and popular ski resort in Beijing. It’s located on the outskirts of the city, around 2 hours drive away from the city. During weekends, people flock the area to ski, snowboard, snow mobile, toboggan etc. Having 13 runs that is about 1500 meters long, the ski resorts boast to offer the best ski/snowboard experience. They also have the flying thing, where there’s a cable that connects to a glide that you can ride to enjoy the spectacular view from above.
I went there twice, the first time where it snowed hard and the second near the season end. Beijing doesn’t have snowfall everyday so you wonder where did they get the ice. They have this machine that creates ice. Of course, newbies like me was astounded by that fact.

There are lots of restaurant / food place in the area, though it’s quite pricey (but of course, you won’t have a choice). The entrance is usually around 80-100 for 2 hours of skiing without the rent of the gears. For beginners, there are ski trainers you can pay to teach you but for a price as always.

I’m not keen at skiing, I was like a snow bunny the last time I ski-ed. I was like hopping all the way…or falling in every place I slide. It was a painful experience. My body ached the day after. I was thankful I am still alive. If you could only see what my position was like when I fell. Horrendous.

i’ve only tried sandboarding (in chile) which is essentially the same as snowboarding but someone said that falling while skiing/snowboarding is actually more painful. ouch!!

I never tried skiing. If I’ll get the chance to travel again to Beijing, I’ll definitely visit this place.
By the way, please change my site from The Asian Traveler to An Asian Traveler. I lost my custom domain. I have now my new web address http://www.anasiantraveler.com . I’m still in the process of modifying my blog. Thank you.
