one too many travel adventures
I had a strange dream when I was young, that I saw some old ruined Church in a big open space. It seemed so real that time that it left me bothered the whole time. In one fateful channel surfing moment, my thumb suddenly stopped in some travel channel that featured this European-ish place in Asia called Macau! I heard this before…long before Jetstar and Air Asia started its cheap flight to that place. I had an inkling that it was near Hong Kong. Seeing all those wonderful articles about it, I was itching to visit and experience the Portuguese culture mixed in China. It was a longing that I learned to suppress till last year.

My friends were planning for trip from Singapore, after cancelling out places we were not interested in, we end up choosing somewhere that is near our shopping destination (Hong Kong). Macau was a first time thing for us. I certainly had some researching done before going there. We had limited time in Macau thus we had to limit our tours.
Senado Sqaure was the most famous as it also connects very near to St Paul’s Cathedral (which is the old ruins of a Church which burnt down during a typhoon a century ago).

We tried quaint restaurants along the area (which was served by a lot of Filipinos, wasn’t surprised by this because Macau is really near Philippines). The friendly servants gave a lot of advises to make our trip worth it (like those free hotel hopping through their shuttles, free taste of egg tarts along the way to St. Paul’s Cathedral).

I was scanning my way through the crowded Senado Square, I had to see some eye sore (commercialized Starbucks, Mcdonald’s, Bosinni etc) It was like a mall in this big area….my…my…I was hoping to see the famous local shops (which I envision to see in Europe~). Guess my ideal went *poof*. Yea..back to reality of business…this is where people hang out, tourist with lots of cash to spend…

I had to stop to check out the map…but honestly, you can just follow the crowd. They’ll lead you to the main attraction which is the St. Paul’s Ruins. I was sweating like I was going to faint anytime soon. This was only day 1 of our Macau trip! Well, the clear sky was on our side as we took pictures of the place which looks so good in photograph.
On our way there, we were being offered Ma pa (Pork jerky, beef jerky) along the way. I was full before I was to buy the famous Portugese egg tarts, with its soft, smooth egg which was held by the crisp tart. There were also almond biscuits that I think is very famous delicasy there in Macau. And oh, I love the milk tea still, any milk tea in China!! =p
Till my next post about our hotel hopping and restaurant hopping!

The Senado Square is very European. And oh, the Portuguese egg tarts looks very appetizing. I’ll be looking forward for your next posts.
