one too many travel adventures
I miss being weird in Singapore….Hmmm weird? Not really the one that would make me be ostracized by society kind of weird…the likes that would look like being in love with life, trying everything weirdly possible and say..”Yea..been there, done that“!
Do what locals wouldn’t approve, do what you wouldn’t do at your home town:
1. Enjoy a MRT ride from end to end — if you have time to KILL, I think this would be an interesting thing to do. I personally enjoyed a long ride at the MRT but I don’t mean to literally bore myself on the long ride. My handy Ipod did the trick of blocking all other sounds…either I was observing different folks (how I notice which races were popular on each stop) or I was introspecting emo-style! The longest ride I experienced was from Toa Payoh to Lakeside. I heard Punggol to Jurong East is better!
2. Watch a show LIVE at Mediacorp — Well, my friend was a part of the OKTO channel team so he got us ticket to watch OKTOLIVE! Yah hah! The show was particularly for the kids (I can blend well, swear!) Sort of like an MTV live where the audience were at the back of the host cheering. Just for kicks, I was forced to volunteer for the game (since I was the only one going back home to Manila for good). Must publicity be that humiliating? Oh well, glad I don’t know a lot in Singapore then…still, I’m a sport!

3. Know at least 20 kinds of bird at the Jurong BirdPark — I adore Penguins, that all! Going to the Birdpark is quite fascinating, but I discovered that I don’t like walking outdoor a lot. You can buy the double ticket offer, where you can also visit the Zoo! Then Night Safari at night! Don’t forget to check the Singapore Tourism Board for promos or discounts! Students, bring your ID!

4. Memorize Bus route — This can be fun…*roll eyes* My ex boss seemed to have a knack at this! Well, good thing the websites of SBS Transit and Streetdirectory are pretty helpful and efficient nowadays. Then again, if you want to impress the old folks, you can definitely memorize some bus routes and help around!
5. Order one of each food plates at the Hawker centre — The best place to do this is at Newton Circus, Lau Pa Sat, Golden Shoe Carpark, East Coast Hawker Centre, Chomp Chomp. Best for sharing though! You don’t want to look like an avaricious eater.
6. Visit local Museums, not just one, but ALL — Inside a small country, it’s quite a surprise to know that Singapore has more than 10 museums! I got to visit National Singapore Museum, Asian Civilization Museum and Peranakan Museum only though. It’s not the usual boring museum, they really make sure everything will be interactive and interesting for kids and tourists alike.

7. Indulge in the different types of Crabs — this is my favorite seafood! Here in Singapore, you get to try a variety of crabs. The most famous is Chili Crab and Black Pepper..but locals also enjoy the Bee Hon Crab and Creamy Crab!
Crab hop at these places:
— Jumbo (most famous for tourist, they have a lot of branches, one in Clark Quay, Riverside, etc. They got one of the best Chili Crab in Singapore
— No Signboard - the oldest branch is in Geylang, but you should visit the Vivo Branch for a better interiors. Best White Pepper Crab I tried.
— Long Beach _ I visited the Dempsey Hill branch last time…superb Black Pepper Crab
— Uncle Leong’s — located at Ang Mo Kio..my favorite for the Creamy Butter Crab..to die for!! also try their Bee Hon Crab…great soup! and also the Sandy Creamy Crab (white pepper and creamy butter), I would try this when I come back to Singapore. I remember this one is close during Mondays. By the way, this is located at a hawker type area. Not a restaurant..but definitely worth going to!
— Melben — across Uncle Leong’s, almost same with Uncle Leong’s but got more variety of other dishes. a great alternative if Uncle Leong’s is jampacked.

*will add these up once I get inspired!
care to add?
just add comments!
Enjoy Singapore like I did and still will!!

In NYC, homeless people oftentimes take the subway ride from end to end with no destination in mind - just sleeping their worries away. It doesn’t sound weird to them but the thought of being in a subway all the day is dizzying for me.

I’ve yet to try these things. I think the one about watching a Mediacorp show live is something I should try in the future.
By the way, I’ve added your blog to my blogroll also!
